WebNov 10, 2005 · The existing shim in the clutch hub in my case was .040 inches. That put the gap between the clutch hub and the clutch pulley at roughly .035 inches. I replaced the existing .040 shim with the new .029 shim. The .011 inch difference reduced the gap to roughly .025 inches when I reassembled the clutch assembly. The OD of the shim is not too crucial as there is plenty of space for it, the 16mm ID is the more important bit. I had to make my own using a sheet of .25mm shim steel I had in stock. There is a 1/16" (1800rpm engagement) and a 1/8" (2000rpm engagement) shims. The use of both 3/16" will give you 2200rpm engagement. So you just want to use the 1/16" shim for a lower engagement rpm. 2011 Sportsman® 800 EFI.
